2014 B.A.R Awards
These are athletes who have done all four Triathlon distances i.e. The Sprint Race, which consists of 750 metre swim, a 20K bike ride and a 5K run; The Olympic Distance, (twice that); The half Ironman Distance which consists of a 1.9 K swim, a 90 K bike ride and a 21K run and then the full Ironman which consists of a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike and a marathon.
There were 5 contenders:
Gerard Lundy from Claudy
Aaron Steele from Limavady
John Joe Muldoon from Magherafelt
Philip Owens from Magherafelt
Alan McElhinney from Tomb
The winner was Alan McElhinney with a tremendous aggregate time of 18 hours 18 minutes which consisted of 1hour 12 minutes for the sprint; 2 hours 18 minutes for the Olympic distance; 4 hours 7 minutes for the Half Ironman and a staggering 10 hours 46 minutes for the Ironman Barcelona.
The Awards Ceremony was well attended and all 5 B.A.R. contenders were congratulated for their significant achievements.
