James Walton AOM March 2014
Name: James Walton
Age: 17
Occupation: Student
Years in Triathlon: 2
Triathlon Highlights or recent performances: Winning my age-group in the Roe Valley sprint triathlon. This was only my second triathlon and I managed a 9 minute PB from the year before as well.
Current Goal: To compete in the Benone Duathlon in a few weeks and hopefully get a good result as well as gaining some points for the club in the club series.
Next Year’s Goal: To finish within the top 3 in my age group in as many triathlons as possible as well as aiming to break a sub 20 minute 5k. I am also hoping to qualify for the Irish Division 1 national championships in July for swimming.
Favourite Training Sessions: Darren Devine’s killer 4x 25m on 20 seconds x 5 set. This set put you through hell but afterwards you felt amazing and you knew you had achieved something during those sessions.
What made you take up the sport? Well I have always had a love for swimming since I can remember and so I already had a strong swimming background. My daddy used to do a lot of triathlons and it was him who got me interested in the idea of the sport. Santa got me my first road bike; I entered my first triathlon and now im hooked!
Favourite food/drink: chocolate milkshake Favourite bit of kit/equipment: My Giant road bike. It may not be the most expensive or high tech bike compared to some triathletes but it gets me from A to B and I love it.
Who do you see as your main rivals? Anyone who is faster than me
Finish this sentence: If I wasn’t training I would be an A grade student!
